Emptying the bin

Turn the machine off and remove the cyclone and bin assembly.

                   

Check the openings on the duct and cyclone top for blockages and remove as necessary.

                   

Disconnect the bin by pressing the release catch at the front of the bin.

                   

Clean the bin

Remove dust from the bin securely.

WARNING: Clean the bin with cold water only, do not use any detergents or polishes on the bin.

                   

Clean the cyclone

Clean the shroud with a dry cloth or by using the combination tool.

Tap gently to remove dust from within the cyclone.

WARNING: Do not use any liquids to clean the cyclone.

                   

Reconnect the bin and cyclone ensuring no gaps along the join.

Switch off and unplug the machine before proceeding.

Check the Brush bar

Recline the machine.

                   

Turn the machine over so that you can see the Brush bar. Undo each fastener on the soleplate by a quarter using a coin and remove.

                   

Clear away any debris from the Brush bar.

                   

Reassemble and test the machine.

Has checking the Cleaner head resolved the problem?

Air may be escaping because of a missing seal or blockage.

Test the suction

Make sure the machine is standing in the upright position.

                   

Pull back the Wand cap.

                   

Turn the machine on and place your hand of the end of the Wand.

Keep your hands and clothing away from the Brush bar area at all times.

Check the Brush bar

Tilt the machine back into the vacuuming position.

                   

Lay the machine on its side, keeping it in the vacuuming position.

                   

If the machine has a Brush bar on/off control, check that the arrow on the clutch control dial moves forward to the carpeted floors position

                   

Turn the machine on and check to see if the Brush bar is spinning.

Does the Brush bar turn with the power on?

Airway inspection checks

Remove the valve pipe, near to the base of the machine.

                   

Check for blockages:

Check the valve pipe for blockages and remove if necessary.

Check the seal on the valve pipe for any damage.

Check the seal on the machine for any damage.

                   

Plug the machine in and switch ON. Place your hand over the airway inspection and test the suction.

                   

Is the suction strong or weaker than usual?

Switch off and unplug the machine before proceeding.

Check the Cleaner head

Turn off power, lay the machine flat on the floor and turn over so that the base can be viewed.

                   

Using a coin turn each fastener a quarter of a turn to the left. Remove the soleplate.

                   

Check for blockages

Carefully remove any blockages from the Brush bar using a pair of scissors to cut away any hair and fibres if necessary.

                   

Inspect the internal hose for blockages and damage and ensure that both ends of the hose are fitted securely.

If a blockage is present, remove any debris.

                   

Reassemble and test the machine.

Clean cyclone shroud as necessary and check the cyclone seal is not missing or damaged.

                   

Reassemble and test the machine.

The post-motor filter located under the clear bin should last the lifetime of the machine and does not need to be washed.

Washing the filter

Please follow the steps in the video to wash the filter.

Remove the clear bin and cyclone top from your machine.

                   

Press the filter release catch to remove the pre-motor filter and filter casing.

                   

Wash the filter in cold water only.

WARNING: Please do not use detergent, do not wash in a dishwasher or washing machine.

                   

Repeat the steps shown below until the water runs clear.

                   

Continue to wash the filter.

                   

Leave the filter to dry in a warm place for 12 hours, until completely dry.

Do not dry the filter in a tumble dryer, microwave, oven or near a naked flame.

                   

Replace the filter into the filter casing and then replace into the cyclone top.

Checking the upright lock

The upright lock can become displaced and cause the machine to not stand correctly. This can be easily resolved by following the procedure shown on the video.

The video may show a different variant although the process remains the same.

Recline the machine and stand behind.

On the right side, by the back wheel you will find the valve pipe carriage.

Check the valve pipe is clear of blockages by pressing the push button to remove it from the valve carriage.

                   

Lock the valve carriage into place by pressing the large push button in front (visible when reclined).

Retest the machine.

Airway inspection checks

Remove the valve pipe, near to the base of the machine.

Please refit the Valve pipe before continuing.

Disconnect the Wand from the hose. Stretch out the hose and check for any splits.

                   

Plug the machine in and switch it ON. Place your hand over the end of the hose and test the suction.

Look through the Wand. You should see light shining through. If not, remove the blockage.

                   

Connect the Wand to the hose and test the machine.

Checking the U-bend and hose

Tilt the machine forward and unclip the U-bend airway inspection which is located at the base of the hose.

Check for blockages and remove as necessary.

                   

Remove the hose

Pull the hose from the back of the duct.

Check the hose at both end for blockages and remove as necessary.

Reassemble

Reconnect the hose, ensuring it clicks into place and is secure.

Reconnect the U-bend, ensuring it clicks into place.

Retest the machine.

Thermal cut out

Most Dyson vacuums have a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the filters need washing or your machine is blocked.

Carry out the performance checks, and if your machine cuts out unplug and leave for at least 2 hours to cool down.

Washing the filter

Please follow the steps in the video to wash the filter.

Remove the filters

Your machine has two washable filters which require washing at least once every 3 months.

Remove the bin from your machine by pressing the cyclone release catch as shown.

                   

To remove filter A, lift the filter release catch on top of the bin to remove the filter from the machine.

                   

To remove filter B firstly recline the machine. Press the release catch located on the ball to release the filter cover. Press the red catch on the filter and pull out.

                   

Wash both filters in cold water only.

WARNING: Please do not use detergent, do not wash in a dishwasher or washing machine.

Repeat the steps until the water runs clear.

Filter B should be rinsed and tapped out until the water runs clear, then tapped out again to ensure all excess water is removed. This will normally require up to 10 rinses.

                   

Dry filters

Leave the filters to dry in a warm place for 24 hours, until completely dry.

Replace filters and test machine.

Place the machine into the upright position.

Attach the Mini turbine head to the hose or Wand.

Pull the plunger into the out position for vacuuming carpets.

Turn the machine on.

If the Mini turbine head is damaged, choose 'part broken'.

Switch off and unplug the machine before proceeding.

Check the Mini turbine head for blockages

Undo the two soleplate fasteners and remove the soleplate from the Mini turbine head.

Check for blockages

Remove each side of the Brush bar by sliding each half out from the sides of the Mini turbine head.

Clear any thread or debris.

Check both of the metal shafts for blockages and ensure that they rotate freely by hand.

Inspect the duct on the underside of the Turbine head for blockages and remove as necessary.

Check the outside surface of the plunger for fluff and debris and remove if necessary.

Reinsert both brush parts

When replacing the Brush bars please ensure that both of the arrows on the Brush bars are pointing in the same direction, towards the rear of the tool.

Replace soleplate and lock both fasteners:

Ensure a flush connection of the top of the soleplate before lowering downwards.

Reattach the turbine head and turn the machine on.

Performance checks required

The Mini turbine head will work if the suction is strong. This issue can be resolved by carrying out performance checks or washing the filter.

How to assemble your Dyson machine

Connect the hose to the bottom of the machine, ensuring the hose clicks into place.

                   

Connect the wand to the hose and press the button on the hose cuff to slide through. Ensure the handle clicks into place at the top of the duct.

                   

The brush and stair tool attach to the top of the cyclone and the crevice tool attaches to the back of the duct.

                   

Wind the cable around the cable winders, in an anti-clockwise direction.

How to use the Brush bar

To start vacuuming, push the Cleaner head down with the foot and pull the handle towards you.

You can control the Brush bar with three settings:

- Manual brush off - for delicate rugs and floors.

- Brush off - when upright.

- Auto brush on - for carpet cleaning.

For vacuuming hard floors push the plunger into the ''in'' position to stop the Brush bar spinning.

Removing a blockage from the Mini turbo tool

If your Mini turbo tool is not working effectively, a blockage may be restricting the Brush bar from turning. A blockage can easily be removed using the procedure below.

Remove the tool from your machine.

Line up the arrow and the button on the collar of the Mini turbo tool, press the button and slide the collar in the direction of the arrow.

The tool will now open allowing you to check for debris wrapped around the Brush bar.

Remove any hair and debris if necessary.
