How to empty the bin
To ensure your machine continues to clean effectively, the clear bin must be emptied as soon as the dust reaches the MAX mark.
Remove the bin by pressing the catch on top of the carry handle.
Push the button to release dust directly into a dustbin or bag.
Shake or tap firmly to remove all dust from inside the fine dust collector.
Press firmly on the centre of the clear bin base to close before placing back on the machine.

What sort of noise?
Test the suction
A whistle suggests that air is escaping due to a missing seal or blockage.
Make sure the machine is standing in the upright position.
Pull back the Wand cap.
Turn the machine on and place your hand of the end of the Wand.
Is the suction strong or weaker than usual?
Switch off and unplug the machine before proceeding.
Checking the upright lock
The upright lock can become displaced and cause the machine to not stand correctly. This can be easily resolved by following the procedure shown on the video.
The video may show a different variant although the process remains the same.
Recline the machine back until it lies flat on the floor, and then stand behind it.
On the right side, by the back wheel you will find the valve pipe carriage.
Check to ensure that the entry seal is not missing or damaged.
Check the valve pipe is clear of blockages by pressing the push button to remove it from the valve carriage.
Lock the valve carriage into place by placing two fingers under the valve and pulling straight up towards the ceiling until you hear it click into place.
Retest the machine.
Keep your hands and clothing away from the Brush bar area at all times.
Check the Brush bar
Tilt the machine back into the vacuuming position.
Lay the machine on its side, keeping it in the vacuuming position.
Turn the machine on and check to see if the Brush bar is spinning.
Airway inspection checks
Remove the valve pipe near to the base of the machine, using the two buttons.
Check for blockages:
Check the valve pipe for blockages and remove if necessary.
Check the seal on the valve pipe for any damage.
Check the seal on the machine for any damage.
Plug the machine in and switch ON. Place your hand over the airway inspection and test the suction.
Is the suction strong or weaker than usual?
Switch off and unplug the machine before proceeding.
Check the Cleaner head
Turn off power, lay the machine flat on the floor and turn over so that the base can be viewed.
Using a coin turn each fastener a quarter of a turn to the left. Remove the soleplate.
Carefully remove any blockages from the Brush bar using a pair of scissors to cut away any hair and fibres if necessary.
Check the internal hose for blockages or damage. Both ends of the internal hose pull away. If the internal hose is split, choose 'part broken'.
When refitting, push firmly and turn side to side to connect and ensure both ends of the hose are fitted securely.
Reattach the soleplate by first lining it up at the front, and then securing the three fasteners.
Retest the machine.
Check duct, bin and cyclone
Turn the machine off and remove the cyclone and bin.
Check the duct:
Check the entry seal located on the left side of the duct is not missing or damaged.
Check the entry pipe and exhaust pipe on the main duct for any blockages and remove as necessary.
Check the bin and cyclone:
Check the cyclone entry seal is not missing or damaged.
Check both entry inlets on the bin and cyclone for blockages, and remove as necessary.
Empty the bin and ensure the bin base remains open.
Release the clear bin by pressing the bin release catch on the front of the cyclone.
Clean cyclone shroud as necessary and check the cyclone seal is not missing or damaged.
Washing the filter
Please follow the steps in the video to wash the filter.

Has washing the filter resolved the problem?
Washing the filter
Remove the clear bin and cyclone top from your machine by pressing the cyclone release catch. Check to ensure the entry seal is not missing or damaged.
Lift the filter release catch and remove the filter from the machine.
Lift the filter out of the machine.
Wash both parts in cold water only.
WARNING: Do not use detergent. Do not wash in a dishwasher or washing machine.
Leave filter to dry in a warm place until filter is completely dry.
Do not dry filter in a tumble dryer, microwave, oven, or near an open flame.
Ensure the filter is completely dry before refitting into machine.
Filter should be washed at least once every 3 to 6 months.
The post-motor filter located to the side of the Motor should last the lifetime of the machine and does not need to be washed.
Check duct, bin and cyclone
Turn the machine off and remove the cyclone and bin assembly.
Check the duct:
Check the entry seal located on the left side of the duct is not missing or damaged.
Check the entry pipe and exhaust pipe on the main duct for any blockages and remove as necessary.
Check the bin and cyclone:
Check the cyclone entry seal is not missing or damaged.
Check both entry inlets on the bin and cyclone for blockages, and remove as necessary.
Empty the bin and ensure the bin base remains open.
Release the clear bin by pressing the bin release catch on the front of the cyclone.
Clean cyclone shroud as necessary and check the cyclone seal is not missing or damaged.
Reassemble and test machine.
Switch off and unplug the machine before proceeding.
Check the Cleaner head
Turn off power, lay the machine flat on the floor and turn over so that the base can be viewed.
Using a coin, turn each fastener by a quarter turn to the left. Remove the soleplate.
Carefully remove any blockages from both parts of the Brush bar using a pair of scissors to cut away any hair and fibres if necessary.
Inspect the internal hose for blockages or and damage. Both ends of the internal hose pull away. If the internal hose is split choose 'part broken'.
When refitting, push firmly and turn side to side to connect and ensure both ends of the hose are fitted securely.
Reattach the soleplate by first lining it up at the front, and then securing the three fasteners.
Retest the machine.
Switch off and unplug the machine before proceeding.
Check the Cleaner head

If the belt or Brush bar is broken, this issue can be resolved by ordering a replacement part.
Reattach the soleplate by first lining it up at the front, and then securing the three fasteners.
If the Brush bar has not been damaged and you have a spare belt please choose the 'how to replace the belt' option. If there are no broken parts and the Brush bar is still not spinning, this issue could be resolved by booking a repair.
Has checking the Cleaner head resolved the problem?
Replacing the belt
Ensure the machine is turned off and unplugged before proceeding.
Remove the soleplate by using a coin to turn the fastener by a quarter.
Pull out the Brush bar ensuring there is no damage and remove belt debris.
Attach the new belt to the Brush bar and feed through the Brush bar housing.
Refit the Brush bar and make sure the end caps are correctly in place.
Attaching the belt to the motor pin:
Loop the belt around your thumb
Using the back of the cleaner as a lever, stretch the belt over the motor spindle and release
Ensure that the belt is free of twists
Important: Rotate the Brush bar several times to centralise the belt onto the motor spindle.
Reassemble the soleplate:
The three soleplate tabs need to be located inside the bumper strip before the soleplate can be pivoted into position
Replace the soleplate and fasten the three soleplate fasteners with a coin
Make sure the soleplate is fitted flush against the brush housing
Airway inspection checks
Remove the valve pipe near to the base of the machine, using the two buttons. Check to ensure the entry seal is not missing or damaged.
Checking for blockages
Check the valve pipe for blockages and remove if necessary.
Check the seal on the valve pipe for any damage.
Check the seal on the machine for any damage.
Plug the machine in and switch ON. Place your hand over the airway and test the suction.

Check the entry seal located on the left side of the duct is not missing or damaged.

Check both entry inlets on the clear bin and cyclone for blockages, and remove as necessary.
Empty the bin and ensure the bin base remains open.
Release the clear bin by pressing the bin release catch on the front of the cyclone.
Clean cyclone shroud as necessary and check the cyclone seal is not missing or damaged.
Reassemble and test machine.
Checking the hose
Please refit the Valve pipe before continuing.
Disconnect the Wand from the hose. Stretch out the hose and check for any splits. If the hose is damaged, select 'part broken'.
Plug the machine in and switch it ON. Place your hand over the end of the hose and test the suction.
Is the suction from the hose strong or weaker than usual?
Checking the Wand
Look through the Wand. You should see light shining through. If not, remove the blockage.
Connect the Wand to the hose and test the machine.
Checking the U-bend and hose
Unclip the U-bend airway inspection, which is located at the base of the hose, below the valve pipe.
Check for blockages and remove as necessary. If the U-bend is missing or damaged, choose 'part broken'
Remove the bin from the machine.
Remove the hose from the machine - the hose release is located at the front.
Press the release catch and pull the hose from the back at the same time.
Check the hose at both ends for blockages and remove as necessary.
Reassemble the machine ensuring the hose and U-bend clicks into place. Re-test the machine.
Test without the bin and cyclone
Plug the machine in at the wall.
Remove the bin and cyclone.
Turn the machine on.
Check duct, bin and cyclone
Turn the machine off and remove the cyclone and bin assembly.
Check the duct:
Check the entry seal located on the left side of the duct is not missing or damaged.
Check the entry pipe and exhaust pipe on the main duct for any blockages and remove as necessary.
Check the bin and cyclone:
Check the cyclone entry seal is not missing or damaged.
Check both entry inlets on the bin and cyclone for blockages, and remove as necessary.
Empty the bin and ensure the bin base remains open.
Release the clear bin by pressing the bin release catch on the front of the cyclone.
Clean cyclone shroud as necessary and check the cyclone seal is not missing or damaged.
Reassemble and test machine.
Test the Wand
The rattling noise may be caused by a blockage in the machine, so the following blockage checks should be carried out.
Make sure the machine is standing in the upright position.
Pull back the wand cap.
Turn the machine on and place your hand of the end of the Wand.
Is the suction strong or weaker than usual?

Has checking the Brush bar resolved the problem?
Check the plunger
The Brush bar in the Mini turbine head is powered by the airflow, so a blockage in the machine or turbine head may cause the Brush bar to stop spinning.
Pull the plunger into the out position for vacuuming carpets.
Turn the machine on.
If the Mini turbine head is damaged, choose 'part broken'.
Check the Mini turbine head for blockages
Ensure the machine is turned off before carrying out tests.
Undo the 2 soleplate fasteners and remove the soleplate from the mini turbine head.
Check for blockages:
Remove each side of the Brush bar by sliding each half out from the side of the mini turbine head
Clear any thread and debris. Check both of the metal shafts for blockages and ensure that they rotate freely by hand
Inspect the duct on the underside of the turbine head for blockages and remove if necessary
Check the outside surface of the plunger for fluff and debris and remove if necessary
Reinsert both brush parts.
When replacing the Brush bars please ensure that both of the arrows on the Brush bars are pointing in the same direction, towards the rear of the tool.
Replace soleplate and lock both fasteners:
Ensure a flush connection of the top of the soleplate before lowering downwards.
Reattach the turbine head and turn the machine on.
Check Mini turbine head
The Mini turbine head will work if the suction is strong. This issue can be resolved by carrying out performance checks or washing the filter.
If the Mini turbine head is damaged, choose the order option.

Make sure the machine is standing in the upright position.
Pull back the Wand cap.
Turn the machine on and place your hand on the end of the Wand.
Is the suction strong or weaker than usual?
Do not plug in or attempt to use the machine until it has been repaired by one of our engineers.

When did the machine last have power?
Thermal cut out
Most Dyson vacuums have a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the filters need washing or your machine is blocked.
Carry out the performance checks, and if your machine cuts out unplug and leave for at least 2 hours to cool down.

This issue can be resolved by cleaning the bin and cyclone and washing the filter.
How to clean the bin and cyclone
Remove the bin by pressing the catch on top of the carry handle.
Push the button to release dust directly into a dustbin or bag.
Release the bin from the cyclone by pressing the release catch.
Clean the cyclone with a dry cloth and shake or tap firmly to remove all dust from inside the fine dust collector.
WARNING: Do not get any part of the cyclone damp or wet.
You can use cold water to clean the clear bin. Do not use detergents or other chemicals.
Ensure the bin is completely dry before attaching back to the cyclone, and press firmly on the centre of the clear bin base to close before placing back on the machine.
Checking the upright lock
The upright lock can become displaced and cause the machine to not stand correctly. This can be easily resolved by following the procedure shown on the video.

Pull the Wand cap back.
Turn the machine on and place your hand on the end of the Wand.
Is the suction strong or weaker than usual?
Clear the Cleaner head
Turn off and unplug the machine.
Lay the machine on its front.
Undo the soleplate by turning the fasteners as far as they will go.
Remove the soleplate and carefully cut away any hairs or fibres using scissors.
Check the Brush bar and end cap for signs of damage.

Checking the U-bend and hose
Unclip the U-bend airway inspection, which is located at the base of the hose, below the valve pipe.
Check for blockages and remove as necessary.
Remove the bin from the machine.
Remove the hose from the machine - the hose release is located at the front.
Press the release catch and pull the hose from the back at the same time.
Check the hose at both ends for blockages and remove as necessary.
Reassemble the machine ensuring the hose and U-bend clicks into place. Re-test the machine.
Check the Brush bar
Plug in and switch on the machine.
Recline the machine into the vacuuming position.
Check the Brush bar through the window at the front of the Cleaner head.
Check the Cleaner head

Check the soleplate to ensure there is no debris or damage to the wheels, and check the wheels are not missing.

How to attach the Wand, hose and accessories
Push back the Wand cap and pull the metal tube from inside the Wand upwards, until it locks into place.
Press the wand release catch and remove the wand handle and hose from the machine.
To separate the Wand from the hose press the release button located on the Wand handle and pull the hose and Wand apart.
Push the accessory tool onto the plastic cuff on the end of the wand or hose using a twisting action, to ensure that the tool is fitted correctly.
Carrying your Dyson machine
For your safety, do not press the cyclone release catch when carrying your machine.
To lift the machine, use the carrying handle on the cyclone top only.
Serial number location
The serial number can be found underneath the machine between the wheels.
How to vacuum the stairs
Always work with the machine at the bottom of the stairs. The hose should stretch to the top of the stairs.
Push back the Wand cap and pull the metal tube from inside the Wand upwards, until it locks into place.
Press the wand release catch and remove the wand handle and hose from the machine.
Push the accessory tool onto the plastic cuff on the end of the wand using a twisting action, to ensure that the tool is fitted correctly.
